Italy 2025
Many have enthusiastically asked about our trip. We’ve been carefully editing the photographs we want to share. Our trip took us to four primary places, Milan, Venice, Florence, and Sorrento. We made side trips to Burano, Capri, Amalfi, Positano, Naples, and Pompeii. As we upload new images, we’ll announce on social media. We hope you enjoy!
Milan
Our trip started in Milan. Landing early in the morning from Newark on a direct flight, we spend the first day exploring the modern city. We left the next day for Venice. We toured the Duomo and watched Salvo the Street Dancer. Milan is a modern city with ancient roots. Click the photo for images from Milan.
Sorrento
Just to the South of Naples, on the other side of the Bay, with a view of Mt. Vesuvius, Sorrento has both a tourist section and areas to discover. Kris found the BEST cannoli on a small and quite dangerous, narrow road just outside of the touristy area.

In the Blue Grotto (Grotta Azzurra), men sing, Volare, to the amusement of, well, us!
Had to include an ambulance responding to an emergency!
Music is their culture and it’s everywhere, from the piazzas to the trains, violins to accordions. This is outside of Santa Maria Croce, Florence.
Santa Maria Croce, Florence. The belts were absolutely beautiful In the main building are buried many famous people, including Michelangelo, Galileo Galilei, Niccolò Machiavelli, and Gioachino Rossini.
Venice and Burano
The most visited canal city in the world, Venice is home to 50,000 people with over 250,000 visitors annually. We found the city built on trees to be clean and charming. Gondola rides on side canals and the Grand Canal, as well as getting lost in the movie-set feel of Venice, was so much fun. We were in Venice when the Roman Catholic Pope was selected and the bells of the city, and all of Italy, rang for 10-15 minutes. It was quite the experience.
The beautifully colored island of Burano, is just a short boat ride to the Northeast of Venice. A quaint and charming place filled with primary colors and wonderful food. Click on the photo for more images of Venice and Burano.
Pompeii
Destroyed in 79 AD with the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius, sections of Pompeii are frozen in time. The eruption occurred shortly before Noon, the city was forgotten for many centuries.
Football rules in Europe! Milan had a playoff match this night and all transportation stops for the chanting fans!
One of our favorite things… church bells chime in Florence. We were there when the Roman Catholic Church selected their new Pope. All the bells rang for 15 minutes.
Early morning in Sorrento from the balcony of our guest house. The dog was quite amusing.
Florence
The beautiful city of Florence, home of Michelangelo’s, David, the Uffizi Gallery, housing art from Da Vinci and Botticelli, has an enticing allure that grew on us. Climbing to the top of the Duomo, we could see all of Florence and the beautiful landscape beyond.
Amalfi and Positano
Buildings line cliffs like mountain goats perched on hillsides. The two towns have distinct personalities along the Amalfi Coast.
The Isle of Capri
Just SouthWest of Naples, on a short boat ride, is the Isle of Capri. Home to $10 cappuccinos, the playground of the rich is a wonderful place to explore. Bring your hiking shoes, as the island is anything but flat.
Our trip from Sorrento to Pompeii was blessed with this man’s talent on the accordion.
